What it’s all about…

By Rorie Jefferies

Every September over 100 NHS Graduate Management Trainees go on their electives leaving England for foreign shores. Some only make it as far as the Department of Health in Whitehall; others make it across the channel to Europe, North America and beyond, and few afflicted with more extreme wanderlust get as far Africa, Asia and South America.

This blog is a record of my elective at Ad-din Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

I am from America and I came across this site accidentally, but this Rorie fellow certainly makes for entertaining reading, what a character! I had to look up the NHS on the web but we sure envy you Brits with your NHS. As far as ‘circling the plughole’ that’s where I draw the line. You should have made sure that there was a warning before you alluded to such a thing, but maybe that’s your liberal European sensibilities. Commies.

I’m sorry for any offense caused Jimmy. I didn’t expect anyone else to read this apart from a dozen or so people. I’m new to the world of blogging, so if you can recommend a good way of warning people that some things might be offensive, that would be much appreciated. I hope you enjoy the other entries.

Thank you for your response sir, and perhaps I was too quick to criticize. It may help you to know that I found this site when searching for information on a film called ‘Bangla Bangla’ which my wife needs for her distance learning film studies course. I found this site on google (a search engine, I don’t know if you have it in Europe) so you may get some confused people visiting your site! After reading your story I went to look up where Bangladesh is and it sure is a long way! I’ve never been out of the States, and rarely leave Arizona where I’ve always lived. My wife, Barbara, always says she wants to go to Europe and particularely to London to see bukingham palace, but we’re cattle farmers so holidays don’t come around too often. My name’s Jimmy but people around here in Tucson call me two shoes cause I can put two shoes on a mule at one time. That counts as a pretty neat trick out here in arizona, as mules can be troublesome beasts to shoe! I hope you and your buddy Mark enjoy it out there in Asia, and I’ll try to look in on you from time to time. Good luck, and as we say here in Arizona, don’t go playing the cowboy when you’re in a teepee!
